Robert Sarkies is a person who - God only knows why - has felt it to be incumbent upon him to make Out of The Blue, a film about the Aramoana Massacre. I see this morning that he is concerned that his opus may attract a high rating from the New Zealand Film Censor.
How my heart bleeds for him.
Sarkies is not alone, however. I understand that a number of films in production are likely to be rated M, R13, or perhaps even more prohibitively. Perhaps Sarkies and the makers of such movies should get together and protest to someone.
Anyone will do.
Movies in production which risk attracting a high rating, or possibly even being banned, include:
Inside Belsen: a Guard's Perspective ("these misunderstood officials at last get a chance to present their viewpoint in this compelling feature")
Pol Pot: hero of a nation ("shows the human side of the Cambodian despot, who bred camellias as a hobby and owned a kitten")
The Serial Killer's Diary (the producers have yet to decide which serial killer to use as the basis for this film, although the script has been finished and casting completed; "only the nouns will change", director Quentin Tarantino says)
Wedding Tackle ("a tense drama about a radical feminist plot to spread testicular cancer throughout North America"; George Clooney has a bit part as First Victim)
