I was writing a little piece this morning about the latest poll results in New Zealand when it occurred to me, not for the first time, that the fact that more than a third of adult voters are actually seriously contemplating voting for the Clark government is one of those incredible and completely inexplicable truths which one simply has to learn live with.
Truths like:
* the fact that 37% of adult Americans believe that Counter Terrorism Unit operative Jack Bauer is a real person (see http://www.randomperspective.com/page.asp?1news/2/099 - for those who came in late, there is no Counter Terrorism Unit and Jack Bauer is a completely fictional personality in the never-ending 24 Hours series of television spy/terrorist fantasies)
* the fact that 60% of Americans believe in extraterrestrial beings (see http://www.space.com/news/050531_alienlife_survey.html)
* the fact that 79% of Americans believe that there is a "god" and, even worse, 66% of these crazed people are "absolutely certain" that there is a "god", notwithstanding the lack of evidence of any kind which supports this laughable proposition. (See http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/index.asp?PID=408 for more on this.)
* the fact that 84% of Americans don't know their arse from their elbow, and a staggering 91% don't know where their arse actually is. (See...no, wait, I made this one up, didn't I?)
* Jack Bauer: 37% of Americans believe that he is a real person. 66% of Americans are "absolutely certain" that God exists. And 27% of Americans are "absolutely certain" that Jack Bauer is God. You read it first on The Unscrambled Web.
