Two friends have been kindly giving/lending to me pirated CDs (giving) and movies (lending).
My conscience has been greatly troubled by this, however, and I have now decided that I won't have anything more to do with copied DVDs and CDs. Copying is wrecking the music industry, and significantly reducing the profitability of movie production. Many of the problems which are starting to emerge in both industries - the dismaying mediocrity of most of their products, for example, and the rapidly growing timidity of both record and movie producers - are the result of declining profitability. People are less inclined to take risks, and to strive for quality, because their industries are much less profitable than they once were. And this is mainly because of piracy. I can only do a very little to make a positive contribution here, but I plan to do it by saying no.
